Rainbow Rampage

Rainbow Rampage is a twin-stick shooter game made during the 2017 Global Game Jam. In the game, it is your job as the player to take a jump onto your hard drive and destroy any leftover viruses and memory leaks that remain on your machine. There are three different colors of viruses, and they can only be killed with a special color of gun, which the player is able to actively switch between during play.

I was in charge of programming the general architecture of the game and implementing features from the designers on our team. I worked with almost every component of the game, including player and input mechanics, sound effects, event systems, projectiles, enemy AI, and even image effects through camera shaders. My team stayed focused throughout the 48 hour jam session and we were able to come up with a fully working and polished product while also completing 4 extra challenges.

Game Jam Challenges
  • The Color and Shape

A color-based game that can also be played by people who have any kind of difficulty seeing color.

  • Lost Library Card

All sound sources are recorded or synthesized during the jam. All sprites, sounds, shaders and scripts were made from scratch on the jam site – no exceptions!

  • Not the Bees!!!

The main game mechanic is based on swarm tactics. All enemies use swarming and following AI mechanics to chase the player around the map.

  • Game Legacy

Each play-through of the game affects the next. The player can accumulate a higher score with every kill which they can use on death to upgrade their stats.
